Making avocado with the kids at church today was a hit!!

I made guacamole with the children at church today and I wasn't sure how it was going to go over. I prayed that the children would enjoy making it and that I could get them to try it just by making the experience fun!

So all the children sat down and I showed them the avocado and they looked at me and said I know what that is but I don't like those and I don't want to try it. I asked the kids if they would make it with me and then decide if they wanted to try. The children had so much fun mashing the avocado, adding the seasoning and  squeezing the lime juice. When it came to trying it I asked the little girl who said No to trying it if she would just try a bite. She did and I was so proud of her and told her that and she gave me the biggest smile! She then asked for more and all the sudden all of the children were asking for more and more! I couldn't keep up with spreading the guacamole on their pita bread. The children said I want to make this at home with my mom and dad. One little girl asked if she could take it home for her brother to try. The whole group of children ages from 2-5 all loved and devoured their guacamole.

I was so pleased that an activity of making guacamole was such a hit!!
I truly believe that kids will try new things and new flavors if it is presented to them in a fun and creative way!  My mission is to teach kids to love their vegetables and then they can teach their parents to love their vegetables too! I am reversing it I guess you could say.

The children were surprised to know that avocados are actually are a fruit. I talked about how good avocados are good for our bodies. We need Monounsaturated fats for proper brain functions and over all health including skin, organs and brain.
